What are Dental X-rays?
Dental x-rays are often necessary to spot problems that would go unnoticed during a typical examination. X-rays are safe and beneficial to your overall oral health. We work diligently to ensure that the x-ray process is as comfortable and quick as possible. Both adults and children can benefit from having these x-rays taken.
Why would Dental X-rays be needed?
You can expect to have x-rays taken at the vast majority of your dental appointments. We use these highly detailed images to find conditions and problems that can only be seen with an x-ray. Some of the reasons you’d need an x-ray include:
- You are coming in as a new patient
- You have a checkup appointment
- You are dealing with a dental emergency
- You’re having a root canal performed
- You are coming in for oral surgery
- You’re considering orthodontic treatment
Who is a candidate for Dental X-rays?
Dental x-rays use a minimal amount of radiation in order to produce a high-quality image for us to see. These images are reviewed to create a personalized treatment plan just for you. Because x-rays are safe and use such a small amount of radiation, they are typically safe for all of our patients. We only recommend x-rays on an as needed basis and you can request a copy of your x-rays at any time.
What happens during the Dental X-ray process?
The x-ray process will begin with a lead apron being draped over your body. This is a protective covering that is essential for preventing radiation from hitting you during treatment. Our trained dental professional will then place the x-ray device inside of your mouth and behind the teeth. The x-ray machine is angled at this machine and the image is taken. The x-ray then shows up immediately on our computer screens for careful review. You will find that the x-ray process is easy, quick and provides us with detailed images crucial for your dental care.
